Your Child’s First Dental Visit in Dayton, OH
Our goal is to make dental visits fun from a very young age, so your little ones will grow up liking the dentist, dental appointments, and taking care of their teeth at home. We believe that healthy habits last a lifetime! It is said that children who grow up prioritizing dental care will have better oral and overall health than those who don’t. They’re also less likely to develop dental fear, anxiety, or phobia.
We expect our youngest patients to wiggle and fuss sometimes, so don’t worry about that at all! Our entire clinical team works with children of all ages daily. We love children and will always address them and you with the utmost respect. Our Kidsperience model teaches our staff to keep the kiddos and caregivers in mind throughout the entire dental journey.
First Dental Visit for Infants
When your baby’s first tooth fully emerges, call us to schedule a visit. Several parents argue that baby teeth will fall out and do not need attention; however, many respected children’s health organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA), support the practice. Did you know that baby teeth can develop cavities and are susceptible to gum disease?
At this appointment, our children’s dentist will take a few moments to inspect your little one’s mouth, tooth or teeth, and oral development. If our dentist sees any concerns, they will explain and let you know what steps to take next.
In addition, we provide parents with advice about which oral care products to use for various ages of development and tips for effective home care.
First Dental Visit for Toddlers
Talking with your little one about dental visits should be consistently positive, uplifting, and encouraging. By remaining positive, your kiddo will feel confident about entering our lobby and climbing into a dental chair!
Our dentist will take some time to evaluate your child’s full oral health: their bite, gums, teeth, soft oral tissues, and jaws. Once a child is old enough to sit still for a dental cleaning (around age four or five) we’ll add cleanings to the exam appointments.
After the assessment, our dentist can let you know if there are any concerns, like cavities, development issues, or abnormalities to address. Our team can also advise you on how to maximize the daily oral care routine at home and which products would be best for your child.
